FW20 Trend: Up-cycling
Artist: Natalie Zvirkova
Image 1: 'Sunflowers'
The sunflowers symbolise very important and powerful elements. These flowers hold a direct correlation to the sun which is the life force of our solar system. The sun is the source of warmth and life. Thus, the sunflower represents vitality - it's vibrant yellow colour emitting energy to its surrounding environment.
Image 2: 'Toxic'
This artwork represents the toxic bacteria which inhabits plastic waste. Therefore, it is a metaphor which serves as a warning to prevent people from using plastic and switching more to sustainable materials.
Image 3: 'A tribute to Basquiat'
This artwork inspired by several works of Jean Michael Basquiat who is known for using his surroundings as canvas. His work as an artist mimicked the work of the conservator by treating the space and environment as artefacts and respecting the original material. Similarly, these jeans are bought from a second-hand store and used as a canvas in order to minimise waste.
Image 4: 'I don't wanna go to Mars'
This artwork displays the fear for the future of planet Earth and encourages to care about its environment first, rather than hoping to inhabit other planets; as the story will just repeat itself if humans won't learn how to live less wasteful and more environmentally friendly life.
